Say Goodbye to Repeat Patch Testing!

We all know that patch testing is one of those mundane, yet essential tasks we must do to be able to carry out certain treatments such as tinting. Whilst we do everything we can to make this as easy as possible for all our wonderful clients e.g. by posting out patch tests, we appreciate that this still takes up your time, and that occasionally they can be forgotten.

With that in mind, we are saying goodbye to repeat patch testing and hello to Colourstart!

Colourstart is a clinically proven, medical grade patch test which screens for allergy to the hair colour ingredient PPD. It is easy to use; as simple as applying a plaster! Once you have tested, there is no need to ever test again, except for very limited circumstances such as a change in your medical profile. Therefore, once you have your Colourstart passport, which confirms you are safe to colour, you have it indefinitely.

But that’s not all. Your Colourstart passport isn’t just for use at Beauty at The Gate, it can be used at hairdressers and other beauty salons, anywhere where you have colour dye applied! Currently we are the only salon to be introducing Colourstart within this region, however it is now widely used across the country, so we are sure it won’t be long before more salons in this area are using it.

Due to Colourstart being classed as a medicine, unfortunately, by law, we are not allowed to give these away for free. We have however made the decision to subsidise the cost for our clients. We are selling Colourstart patch tests for a reduced price of £8.50 (RRP is £15).

How does it work?

Colourstart really have made it incredibly easy. You simply download the Colourstart app, which is available on Apple and Android, and create a free account.
You then apply your patch, take a photo, and pop it on the app.
After 48 hours, the app will notify you to remove your patch, and then upload a photo 48 hours later to show if you have had a reaction. Once you have done this, your passport will display a green tick, which means you are safe to colour. It will also update our software, so we know your treatment can go ahead.

Each time you then book an appointment which requires a patch test, you will be asked to update your Colourstart passport. To do this, you simply open your app and answer a couple of questions. Your passport will be updated, and we will be able to see that we are able to carry out your treatment. The beauty of this is, if you do forget to update your passport prior to your appointment, it is so quick, it can be done when you are in the salon. Need a last-minute eyebrow tint? We will be able to offer you a same day appointment as we do not need to wait for a patch test result.

Need help?
