BABTAC x TIME

In January 2023,The British Association of Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology (BABTAC) launched their TIME campaign to help educate clients as to what they should be taking in to account when looking for a Therapist, signposting consumers to salon safety.

A recent survey carried out by Beauty Backed found that 56% of consumers believe the non-surgical cosmetics industry is regulated, however there is currently no legislation that practitioners need to abide by.

To protect clients against potentially dangerous procedures, BABTAC launched a framework for people to use when considering the higher end of beauty treatments. It urges people to think about whether their practitioners have:

  • TRAINING – What training and qualifications, including continual professional development (CPD) do they and all their staff have?

  • INSURANCE – Are they insured & who by?

  • MONITORING – Do they carry out important pre and post-appointment processes such as patch tests, consultations & aftercare?

  • EVIDENCE – Can they provide certified proof of training and insurance and client testimonials?

So how do we manage your safety here at The Gate?

Training

If you have follow us on social media, you will know that barely a week goes by when we don’t have some form of training within the team.

Whether that’s in house with Sam, external training courses or learning skills from each other, we are always building on our skills and learning new treatments.

As you will know, our #batgnewwave has meant a large number of new treatments and so there has been a great deal of emphasis on education within the salon. We are extremely proud that over the last 18 months we have achieved over 650 hours of CPD (continual professional development) across seven Therapists.

We keep a record of all of the training and qualifications achieved by our Therapists and should you have any questions at all, we are more than happy to talk you through our qualification and training procedures.

Ensuring your Therapist is fully qualified to perform the treatments that they provide is extremely important to you and your safety, you should always feel able to ask and that includes here at The Gate.

Insurance

You can never prepare for the unexpected, which is why it's essential that beauty businesses have the correct insurance in place for the treatments that they are providing.

Here at The Gate, we are fully insured for each and every treatment that we provide. The vast majority of our treatments are covered by BABTAC themselves with some more specialist treatments having their own individual policies.

It is essential for your safety that the Therapist that you choose is fully insured, whether in a formal salon setting or someone who is working from home and if you are in any doubt, please do ask.

We also hold the necessary licenses from East Lindsey District Council to enable us to provide needle based treatments, another important factor to consider when looking at mirco-needling treatments such as SkinPen and Morpheus8, ensuring that our sharps are disposed of safely and correctly.

Monitoring

If you have joined us for a treatment here at The Gate, you will know that we have our own bespoke consultation system (Consult with Confidence) that was specifically designed by us for use in the salon that is now used by other beauty businesses across the country.

This system allows us to send you a pre-visit form which allows us to assess your suitability for a treatment before you visit us to ensure that any contraindications are picked up. For our more in-depth treatments, we also invite you to join us for a full consultation prior to any treatment to ensure not only that we answer any questions that you may have, but again, that our treatments are suitable for you.

Patch tests for any treatment that requires a tint are posted directly to you prior to your appointment to save you an extra visit and to make sure that you do not have any reactions to anything that will be used within the treatment. Patch tests are also performed during a consultation for more advanced treatments such as SkinPen, Morpheus8, Laser Hair Reduction and Vasculaze.

Aftercare is an important element of your treatment and will always be given to you by your Therapist directly after your treatment and followed up via email.

All of these processes are designed not just to make your visit to us as smooth as possible, but also to make sure you get the most from your treatments here with us while keeping you safe.

Evidence

We keep records of all of our Insurance, Training and Continued Professional Development so if you would like to see any of these please do ask and your Therapist will be happy to help. Any beauty business that you visit should be willing to share these with you on request.

We regularly share client testimonials via our social media so please do join us over on Instagram or Facebook to see more of these or if there is a specific treatment that you would like some reviews for do not hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to provide these for you.
